Charlottesville, VA… December 24, 2025… 8:40 AM… Early this morning, Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority (RWSA) personnel were alerted to an abnormal drop in water storage levels in the northern urban service area. RWSA and Albemarle County Service Authority (ACSA) staff were immediately mobilized to investigate the source of the problem. A leak was discovered on Route 29 North between Lewis & Clark Drive and Camelot Drive. The water main break has been isolated. A northbound travel lane on Route 29 will remain closed while the repair work is carried out.

We are working with our partners at ACSA and VDH to investigate the impacts of the disruption.

The 12″ water pipe was installed in 1969 and serves the northern area of the water system. This pipe connects the South Rivanna Water Treatment Plant, North Rivanna Water Treatment Plant, and Piney Mountain Water Storage Tank.
