The Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority (RWSA) will accept residential and commercial septage and prior-approved commercial/industrial process septage for disposal at the Moores Creek Advanced Water Resource Recovery Facility (MCAWRRF) located in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Locations & Hours

Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00am – 5:00pm at our Moores Creek Advanced Water Resource Recovery Facility at 695 Moores Creek Lane in Charlottesville, VA.

For septage deliveries made outside these hours, on weekends, or holidays please call (434) 906-0760 and ask the operator on duty to open the gate.  Receiving at these times are subject to a surcharge. Our main receiving location is on the north side of the Moores Creek facility, just inside the main entrance gate.  The south side location is not in service regularly but may be used as a backup option if needed.

Mobile kitchens, RVs, motorhomes, campers, charter buses not subject to fee due to small quantity.

Fees are set by the Board of Directors and are subject to periodic revision.

The Moores Creek entrance gate will be open from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on non-holiday weekdays. Regular fees will apply for disposal between 6:00 am and 7:00 am, and 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm.

Accepted Wastewater Types

Residential/Commercial Septage:
Includes domestic wastewater from septic systems and portable toilets (e.g., porta-potties).

Commercial/Industrial Process Wastewater:
Accepted case-by-case upon prior approval.

Application Process

New Applicants:
Complete a Wastewater Hauler or Generator Disposal Application and pay a $35 fee.

Pre-Approval Required:
All non-septage waste must be approved by RWSA before delivery.

Prohibited Waste

  • Wastewater outside a pH range of 5.5–9.5.
  • Fats, oils, or grease (F.O.G.).
  • Waste that interferes with treatment or causes pollutants to pass through.
  • Combined loads of septage and process wastewater.
  • Unapproved or improperly transported waste.

Disposal of prohibited waste may result in permit revocation.

Disposal Hours & Fees

Regular Hours:
6:00 AM – 5:30 PM, non-holiday weekdays (standard fee).

After-Hours:
Weekends, holidays, or outside regular hours (higher fee). Call (434) 906-0760 for access when the gate is closed.

Hauler Responsibilities

  • Use provided PIN to access discharge sites.
  • Dispose of wastewater at the North Side discharge station via gravity feed (no pumping allowed).
  • Clean up any spills or leakage.
  • Improper unloading or equipment damage may result in penalties and revoked privileges.

Billing & Payment

  • Wastewater volumes are metered.
  • Septage disposal billed to haulers; process wastewater billed to generators.
  • Invoices sent monthly, due by the 25th. Accounts over 60 days overdue will be suspended until paid.
